DESCRIPTION Sherman II early DV Hull
The sherman II is the English denomination of the sherman M4A1, with a few modifications such as sandshields, a turret storage locker and a second radio antenna. First put into combat in October 1942 by the British VIIIth Army at the battle of El-Alamein in Egypt on October 23, 1942.
Production of the M4A1, with its molded shell and Continental R-975 Whirlwind star engine, began in February 1942 at the Lima Locomotive Works on the assembly line dedicated to Lend-Lease with the British, then, from March onwards, at Pressed Steel Car Company13. The first M4A1 rolled off the Pacific Car and Foundry Company line in May, and production ceased at the end of 1943, with a total of 6,281 M4A1s produced with the 75 mm gun14.
Early M4A1s also had the M3 pattern bogies.
